Origins of VECKER

“I've been haunted by the lack of a comprehensive system for running a business ever since my early days at IBM, when a division president asked me to design such a system for him. As he and I observed at the time, there were plenty of "peephole" systems—which looked at a narrow area, usually financial data—that could help in a limited way; but there weren't any systems that would provide the clarity, context, alignment, accountability, and consistency required to influence and achieve broad-based results. We never got very far with this idea though.

I built the VECKER system out of necessity. When I became CEO of my own company, I desperately wanted a system such as I had envisioned to build and run my company. Starting with a rudimentary outline, I created the system we used to build and exit OutlookSoft and then developed the comprehensive, in-depth system and software application we use today to build and run companies.

A critical aspect of the VECKER system is that it is based on what a business is and how a business works—it is not an academic theory with little basis in real world business operations.

The VECKER system was created by operators for operators to achieve results.”
